Welcome to the gallery, a photo essay depicting the progress of world-renown artist John Fisher as he carves away at his latest work, the yet-to-be-named "Horse."

After selecting a horse as his subject to commemorate the site of the Civil War Battle of Chantilly, Fisher traveled to the mountains above Cararra, Italy in March 2006, and selected the finest and most appropriate block of marble. He spent two months in Italy completing the first stage of sculpting and reducing the size of the marble block from 55,000 pounds to 40,000 pounds by roughing out the horse's figure in the block. Then he personally secured the block within a steel container, transported it by truck to Livorno, Italy, loaded it onto a ship for the United States, and sent it to Fairfax via Baltimore.

John Fisher has completed his latest masterpiece!  You can view the yet-to-be-named "Horse" from it's inception through to completion in our Gallery below.  What's next?  We will be announcing a contest to name the horse.  Check back for further details coming your way soon!
